Cochran wins sheriff primary

It did not take long to tally the results in the Edgar County primary election held Tuesday, June 28.

The polls closed at 7 p.m. and all 31 precincts were counted by 8:30 p.m.

Only one local race existed in the county and that was on the Republican ballot where Doug Cochran and Roger Hopper were seeking the party’s nomination for sheriff candidate in the November general election.

Cochran won the race with 1,325 votes and 59.93% to Hopper’s 886 votes for 40.07%  of the total.

Cochran will square off against Democrat Jeff Wood, the incumbent sheriff in November. Wood did not have a challenger in the primary and won renomination with 330 votes.

All other nominations for county office were filled with incumbent Republicans, who like Wood on the Democratic side, did not face any challengers for the nomination.
