Chamber hosting a block party
Summer’s drawing to a close and the Paris Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism is marking the change with a big block party 8 p.m.-midnight Saturday, Aug. 12, on the square.
“We want people to see it as an end of summer celebration,” said chamber board member Cathy Slaven.
The 21-plus event features live music by Bailout. There is a $5 cover charge to enter and drink tickets are $3 each.
Slaven said Bailout is from Marshall and has a following in Paris and Terre Haute, Ind. She is expecting a large crowd.
“There will be a band, drinks and Savoia’s is open for pizza right there if people want pizza,” she said.
According to Slaven, the chamber board members participated in a director’s retreat and were tossing around ideas for community events. She said, “We thought this would be something different and people would enjoy it.”
As of deadline, the exact location was still undecided. The chamber will barricade either Wood or Court Street for the event. Slaven said it won’t be hard to find as people just need to look for the roped off area on the square.
In addition to the chamber, other sponsors of the event are Prospect Bank, North American Lighting, Dimond Bros., Ingrum Waste Disposal and Feutz Contractors.
“Paris 95 has generously loaned a stage,” said Slaven, adding anyone showing a school employee identification card gets one free $3 drink ticket.
