Fire claims woman’s life
A Paris woman is dead as a result of a Tuesday night fire at her residence.
911 dispatchers were notified at 10:42 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, of a structure fire at 331 East Union Street, Paris.
Edgar County Coroner Scott Barrett said first responders were told aat the scene a female was still inside the residence and firefighters made entry into the home where they found her unresponsive. She was transported to the emergency room at Horizon Health.
Barrett subsequently pronounced Karen S. Devers, 66, dead.
“Official cause of death will be determined following an autopsy Wednesday morning,” said Barrett. “No foul play is suspected based upon current available evidence.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the office of the State Fire Marshal and the Paris Fire Department.
Responding to the scene were the Paris Police Department, Paris Fire Department and Edgar County Special Service Area Ambulance.
