First-time meth offender gets probation after guilty plea

An Oakland man was sentenced after pleading guilty to a felony drug charge during the Nov. 27 criminal and traffic call in Edgar County Circuit Court.

Jessie R. Woodmansee, 39, Oakland, appeared in custody for and pleaded guilty to a Class 3 felony possession of methamphetamine charge. He was sentenced to 120 days in jail with credit for 23 days previously served and the remaining 74 days subject to a motion to vacate, two years of first-offender probation, a $500 fine, 10 hours of community service work, court costs and various state fees. He was remanded to custody pending release processing.

In Custody

Scott L. Pine, 30, Paris, appeared in custody and a defense motion for bond reduction was granted. Bond was reduced to $5,000 from the original $10,000 amount. Pine’s unresolved Class 3 felony possession of methamphetamine charge was continued for a pretrial conference, and he was remanded to custody pending posting of bond.

Kaleb A. Sink, 21, Paris, appeared in custody for missing a previous court appearance. His unresolved Class A misdemeanor driving on a suspended license charge was continued for a bond reduction hearing. He was remanded to custody pending posting of bond.

Charges

Marty A. Brown, 50, Dennison, was presented with an amended petition to revoke his probation sentence for a Class 4 felony domestic battery conviction. The matter was continued for a hearing on the petition.

David B. Cohoon, 58, Chrisman, was charged with a Class A misdemeanor driving on a suspended license. The public defender was appointed and the matter was continued for a first appearance with counsel.

Megan C. Cusick, 22, Paris, was charged with a Class A misdemeanor retail theft. The public defender was appointed and the matter was continued for a first appearance with counsel.

Daniel L. Hires, 42, Casey, was charged with a Class A misdemeanor driving on a revoked license. He told the court he will hire an attorney, and the matter was continued for a pretrial conference.

James R.L. Lopez, 18, Paris, was charged with a Class B misdemeanor operating a motor vehicle without a license. The public defender was assigned, and the matter was continued for a first appearance with counsel.

Jonah I. Mason, 34, Paris, was charged with a Class A misdemeanor driving on a suspended license. The public defender was appointed and first appearance with counsel was scheduled.

Tyler L. Rodriguez, 23, Paris, was charged with a Class A misdemeanor driving on a suspended license. The public defender was appointed, and the matter was continued for a first appearance with counsel.

Guilty Pleas

Leonard R. Jackson, 52, Chicago, pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor speeding. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail subject to a motion to vacate, one year of conditional discharge, a $300 fine, court costs and various state fees. In exchange for the guilty plea, the state dismissed a Class A misdemeanor reckless driving charge.

Michael A. Swinford, 39, Hindsboro, pleaded guilty to a Class A misdemeanor unlawful display of an automobile title. He was sentenced to one year of conditional discharge, a $400 fine, court costs and various state fees.

Not guilty pleas

James E. Ayres, 58, Chrisman, waived preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty with a jury trial demand to a Class 2 felony aggravated battery of a police officer and a Class 3 felony aggravated battery in a public place. A pretrial conference was scheduled.

Steven L. Baty, 20, Paris, denied a petition to revoke his probation sentence for a Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance conviction. A pretrial conference was scheduled.

Alexandra J. Behiter, 24, Paris, pleaded not guilty with a jury trial demand to a Class A misdemeanor criminal damage to property charge. The matter was continued for a pretrial conference.

Paul D. Hanks, 65, Paris, pleaded not guilty with a jury trial demand to two Class A misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. He has hired an attorney and the matter was continued for a pretrial conference.

Michael D. Meeks, 43, Ridge Farm, pleaded not guilty with a jury trial demand to two Class A misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. The matter was continued for a pretrial conference.

Diane C. Ward, 38, Homer, pleaded not guilty with a jury trial demand to a Class A misdemeanor driving on a suspended license and a Class B misdemeanor speeding charges. A pretrial conference was scheduled.

Other Matters

Mark Shaffer, 53, Terre Haute, Ind., learned the state withdrew a petition to revoke his conditional discharge sentence for a Class 2 felony possession of methamphetamine precursors and a Class A misdemeanor driving on a suspended license convictions. A warrant for his arrest was quashed.
