Quanex recognized for safety

Quanex Screens Division plant at Paris was recently awarded the Quanex President’s Safety Award for 2017.

Bill Griffith, president/ceo, presented the award during a recent EHS/OPEX meeting at Houston, Texas. Marty Tarter, plant manager, accepted the award on behalf of the employees at Paris.

The screens division is made up of plants in Perrysburg, Ohio, Parkersburg, W.Va., Des Moines, Iowa and Dallas, Texas.

The Paris plant was specifically recognized for safety improvements over the last couple of years.

In 2016, Paris reduced overall injuries by 32 percent, with severe injuries requiring days off from work cut by 70 percent. Injuries were eliminated in 2017 through the efforts of the employees, and the plant has gone 594 days without a recordable Injury and 1,156 days without a lost-time injury.

“This is a proud plant manager moment,” Tarter said. “Every employee should go home every day in the same physical condition they came to work in.

“We will celebrate today, but tomorrow we move forward to additional plant improvements and create a safer workplace for our employees.”
