NORTH FORTH MYERS, Fla. – Claude Clark Dorsett, 81, Of North Fort Myers, Fla., passed away unexpectedly Dec. 1, 2017. He worked 35 years as an operating engineer from Union #841.
According to his wishes, he was cremated and a memorial will be held in Illinois at a later date.
Mr. Dorsett was born June 9, 1936, in Edgar County, the son of Claude Dorsett and Christine Clark Dorsett. He married Wanda Brooks, daughter of Schenck Brooks and Marie Cassity Brooks Dec. 18, 1955, in Paris, and she survives.
He is also survived by a son, Chuck (Jennifer) Dorsett; a daughter, Christa (Dennis) Trump; four grandsons; a step-granddaughter; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Dorsett Davis in 1998.
Mr. Dorsett graduated from Paris High School and attended Eastern Illinois University. He was a past Exalted Ruler of Paris Elks #812. He and his dad raised registered quarter horses. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, playing cards and games.
He retired to Florida in 1998, and especially enjoyed woodworking, making name plaques for friends and family, as well as wooden toys and puzzles. Mr. Dorsett and his wife made literally thousands of wind chimes as gifts and also sold them at flea markets.
The couple enjoyed many years of motorhome travel through all of the United States, across Canada twice and a wonderful guided 50-day tour of Alaska. He said that was the best trip ever.
