MARSHALL – Edith M. Howard, 89, of Marshall, passed away at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Casey Health Care Center, Casey. She was a retired registered nurse from Union Hospital, Terre Haute, Ind.
A service honoring her life is 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Lewis officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at the funeral home with an Order of Eastern Star Memorial Service at 5 p.m.
Mrs. Howard was born April 14, 1928, in Clark County, the daughter of Glenn and Lois Hassebrock Martin. She married Drexel Howard Sept. 21, 1946, at Casey, and he survives.
She is also survived by children, Terry (Jeannea) Howard of Dennison, John Howard of Marshall, Lois (Rod) Guffey of Williamsville and David (Denise) Howard of Marshall; grandchildren, Sean Howard, Leah Guffey, Jacob Guffey, Cassie Howard, J.C. Howard, Justin Howard and Tyler Howard; five great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; a brother, Garnet “Butch” Martin of Grants Pass, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Guymon; and brothers, Dean Martin, LaVerne Martin, John Martin, Byron Martin and Robert Martin.
Mrs. Howard was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall and the W.S.C.S. of the church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #739 and was formerly active with Marshall Main Street, Clark County Optimist, a Harlan Hall volunteer, Marshall Food and Clothing Bank and a former 4-H leader. For several years, she wrote a column called “Edie’s Corner” for the Marshall Advocate.
Her professional nursing career included serving as director of nursing at Meadows Manor North, Terre Haute, Ind., and Burnsides Community Health Center, Marshall.
