Boys tennis closes out season with Robinson win

Paris tennis took home a victory on senior night Tuesday in Paris with a 6-3 win over the Robinson Maroons. Head Coach Stefan Aydt attributed the strong season to the graduating players. “They’ve been a great group to work with and I’m going to miss all of them. They’ve done a great job leading us through one of our best seasons in recent history.”

“Seeing as though it was senior night, we were looking for a little revenge tonight after settling for second place to Robinson at the LIC tournament on Saturday and we played very focused, smart tennis in all our matches.”

Jacob Graham won his match 6-4, 6-0 while Jacob Randolph won his singles matchup 7-6(3), 6-3 at the number three spot tonight using some good net play to frustrate his opponent. Kayin Lawson took a win at number four by the score of 6-4, 6-3, and Salem Isaf grabbed a 6-2, 6-3 win at the six spot. Number two Max Holloway was swept 6-3, and Noah Holzer lost at number five singles 6-3, 6-0.

Paris needed to win one doubles match to pick up the meet victory, but managed to win two and almost got all three. Randolph and Graham teamed up at second doubles and made quick work of their opponents sweeping them 6-1 in two sets, with some great volley work at the net to put the meet out of reach.

Lawson and Holloway picked up a nice win at number one in a back and forth match, winning 6-4, 6-3. Holzer and Isaf played well at the third spot, winning more games than their opponents, but they didn’t spread them out well, falling 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.

Paris ends the regular season at 12-3 with a 7-1 LIC record. “JV is done for the season, but the top 6 will keep working this week to try to finish in the top 4 at Sectionals and earn a trip to state.”
