Doc Acklin Cross Country Meet

Paris cross country hosted their annual Doc Acklin Meet this past Saturday at Paris High School, with the boys finishing fifth and the girls placing third. Head Coach Misy Tingley was happy with the big event, which included ten high school teams and over a half dozen junior high squads.

“I am extremely pleased with the way both the boys and girls teams are progressing. Though it is still very early in our season, this makes me excited for the amount of improvements I think we will see not only as they get in better shape but as they have a greater understanding of the sport.”

DJ Fessant placed ninth overall out of nearly 70 boys runners on the day with a 17:42.54 time. “DJ has placed in the top 10 of both races so far this year. He is a very determined athlete who has a drive about him that is going to make his first year running cross country very impressive.” Also placing were Jeffrey Bennett, 33rd at 18:44.41 and Kyle Bauermesiter 63rd overall at 19:16.14.

“On the girls team, Kayla Smith has shown great improvements from last year. Kayla was at basic training all summer and it has made a huge difference in her overall fitness level.” This showed with her strong 12th overall finish at 20:44.89. Hailey Underwood came in at 21:32.84, good for 25th, and Sarah Isaf placed 41st at 21:56.05.

“I am proud of how the teams are working in practice and pushing each other to get better every day. Our teams are extremely supportive of each other and have shown to me just how great of teammates they are.”
