Lady Eagles sweep Casey
CASEY – The Crestwood Lady Eagles boarded a bus for the final time this regular season, this time to Casey, and once again returned to the school with a pair of victories.
With just three home dates left on the schedule this season, the seventh grade team remained perfect on the season with a 59-22 victory. The seventh grade squad sports a spotless 15-0 record. The eighth graders improved to 12-3 with a 39-23 win.
As has been the case in nearly every game they have played, the seventh grade team built an early lead, 20-4 after the first quarter. By halftime, they extended the lead to 32-12 and cruised from there.
Trinity Tingley led the way for Crestwood with career high 20 points on the evening. Kaitlyn Coombes and Gracie Dyer added eight points apiece for the Lady Eagles. Jacoba Harcar chipped in with six points, Kendra Young scored five and Vivian Moore, Grace Sullivan and Deming Hawkins each scored four to round out the scoring.
Sullivan also added four rebounds, four assists and six steals in the contest.
On the eighth grade side, the Lady Eagles once again led at each stop with 11-7 at the first quarter and 19-12 at the half. Things remained tight through three quarters, but Crestwood’s defense stiffened in the final stanza and held Casey to just two points.
Hawkins led the way for the eighth graders with 12 points. Kenzie Hutchings and Tingley had eight points apiece in a balanced scoring attack for Crestwood. Young contributed in nearly every offensive category as she scored seven, pulled down eight rebounds and handed out four assists. Gracie Adams and Marissa Lawson had two points each to round out the scoring.
Crestwood has a tough test in the next four days, as the Eagles host Mattoon tonight and Charleston on Monday. The regular season ends Tuesday with a home game against Tuscola and celebrates eighth grade night.
