Reta Dell Smittkamp, 102, of Terre Haute, Ind., and formerly of Paris, passed away at 10:23 p.m. EDT Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, at her residence. She was a devoted homemaker.

Reta Smittkamp

Reta Dell Smittkamp, 102, of Terre Haute, Ind., and formerly of Paris, passed away at 10:23 p.m. EDT Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, at her residence. She was a devoted homemaker.

A public memorial service is 2 p.m. Oct. 11 at Templeton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Dixon officiating. Private interment is in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation is from 1 p.m. until the service time Oct. 11 at the funeral home. 

Mrs. Smittkamp was born May 28, 1919, in Westfield, the daughter of the late Godfrey and Okel Ingram Weber. She married C. Allen Smittkamp on June 17, 1939, at First Christian Church in Paris. He preceded her in death March 27, 2010.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Allen (Jeanette) Smittkamp of Bloomington, Ill., James Arthur (Elizabeth) Smittkamp of Peoria and Jerry Lee (Lynda) Smittkamp of Thornton, Colo.; a daughter, Betty J. Lee of Terre Haute; one sister, Shirley Ross of LaVerne, Calif.; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Bill) McCarty and Gwendolyn Gosnell both of Terre Haute, Dr. Charles A. Smittkamp of Springfield, Dr. Susan Smittkamp (Paul Rupp) of Kansas City, Mo., James A. Smittkamp of Dunlap and Chris (Krista) Aho of Thornton; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Smittkamp was an active member of First Christian Church of Paris for many years where she was very involved in children’s Sunday School and VBS as well as Christian Women’s Fellowship. She served as secretary of First Christian Church of Paris for 17 years. She was also active in the Edgar County Home Extensions and in 4-H for many years.

Memorial donations may be made to the Compassionate Food Pantry or to First Christian Church of Paris.
