Edgar County & State authorities investigate child death

A 23-month-old passed away in Paris

On Wednesday, Sept. 23, the Edgar County Coroner’s Office and Paris Police Department each issued a press release regarding the death of a 23-month-old in Paris.

According to press releases, Edgar County 911 Dispatch Center received a call on Monday, Sept. 21, at 6:52 p.m., and the caller stated she was watching the child and the child became unresponsive.

Paris Police Department, Paris Fire Department and Horizon Health Ambulance all immediately responded to the scene located on West Edgar Street.

Upon arrival, first responders administered immediate aid to the juvenile, and they were transported to the Horizon Health Emergency Room.

The juvenile unfortunately succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:42 p.m.

An autopsy was conducted the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 22, in Bloomington, Ill., by Forensic Pathologist Dr. Scott Denton.

“This appears to be an isolated incident, and investigators are actively working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the event,” according to the Paris Police Department press release.

“To preserve the integrity of the investigation, specific details are not being released at this time. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available for public release.”

The death remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police, Illinois State Police CSI, Paris Police and the Edgar County Coroner.
