Karen Hand

Karen R. Hand, 75, of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and formerly of Paris, passed away at 11:26 a.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital Emerald Coast, Miramar Beach, Fla. She was retired after more than 25 years as an educator in the Tanner and Carolyn Wenz elementary schools in Paris.

Private burial is in Edgar Cemetery. Templeton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hand was born June 28, 1945, in Waukegan, the daughter of the late Orville and Cleone Kistler Warfel. She married Charles Allen Hand July 2, 1966, in Waukegan. He preceded her in death Oct. 10, 2018.

Survivors include a son, Bryan Hand, and two grandchildren, Karena and Zachary Hand, all of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; a sister, Rhonda Ross of Findley, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Hand earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Illinois University. She was an avid reader and loved to study royal family history. She was also talented at tole painting and sewing. Mrs. Hand will be remembered by many for her thoughtful letters written in her perfect penmanship.
