SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Supreme Court has suspended the law license of Lauren McQueen, the assistant state’s attorney in Edgar County, following findings that she misused thousands of dollars from a professional legal organization and later lied about it.
McQueen, who was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2019, was suspended for “one year and until further order of the court,” according to a ruling issued on Sept. 19, 2025. The suspension will be stayed after 60 days, after which she will serve two years of conditional probation. The disciplinary action takes effect Oct. 10.
According to the court’s findings, McQueen took $8,912.71 from the Champaign County Bar Association (CCBA) without authorization while serving as the organization’s treasurer and later president.
Under the terms of her probation, McQueen must comply with several strict conditions, including repaying the costs of the disciplinary proceedings to the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC).
She will also be required to submit to random substance testing within eight hours of notice and continue psychotherapy with a licensed mental health professional at least once a month for a minimum of one year.
Additionally, McQueen must report any lapse in sobriety or use of unprescribed controlled substances within 72 hours and abstain entirely from alcohol and non-prescribed drugs during her probation.
