Oktoberfest kicks off in Paris at Lot 50

On Saturday, Sept. 6, Lot 50 celebrated the first day of Oktoberfest by tapping their first-ever Märzen and holding a festival complete with a German costume contest, a sausage toss, a stein holding contest and the Paris Brass Quintet playing traditional German music.

To open up the festival, owners Bruce Young and Steve Coombes tapped a keg on the stage and poured for those in attendance before shouting “Prost”, German for cheers. While Daisy Mae’s food truck served traditional German fare, the sausages began to fly. After a few rounds, the sausage toss came down to a toss-up between two teams. Drew Griffin and Chad “Chopper” Gann came out ahead of John and Jorge to win it all.

Shortly afterwards, the Paris Brass Quintet took the stage to treat Lot 50 to traditional German tunes while staff prepared for the costume contest. Millie Arp won on the women’s side of the costume contest, while the men’s division was declared a draw.

Finally, the festival was rounded out with a stein-holding contest, a test of endurance and stability. After some early eliminations due to spills, the Arps swept both the men’s and women’s divisions, Jeff Arp taking the men’s and Susan Arp taking the women’s.
