At the Paris City Council meeting on Monday, May 12, the council opened with a proclamation, designating May 23 and 24 Poppy Days, honoring veterans and reminding Paris that the American Legion Auxiliary will be handing out poppy flowers in their usual spots.
Mayor Craig Smith encouraged residents to accept a flower and donate if they are able, saying, “If we see you ducking them, we’ll come get you!”
Among the motions passed was a resolution approving a parade for Edgar County Shriners on June 14, with an accompanying resolution to temporarily close N Central and Main Street for the duration of the parade, which will run from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
Similarly, a resolution was passed to temporarily close a section of Route 150, north of the lake, from the bridge up to 1200 N for the fifth annual Eiffel Tower Triathlon, which will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on June 14.
The council also approved a number of TIF requests, including one that will help the Edgar County Historical Society expand its facility at 408 N Main Street.
Lastly, with Fire Chief Chad Crampton planning to retire in August of this year, the council announced that Zack Janis will be filling his boots once Crampton steps away. Mayor Smith emphasized that though he will miss having Chief Crampton in the role, he is confident in Janis’ ability to maintain the high standard set by his predecessor.
