Prepare to submerge: Paris Fire Department and Horizon Health conduct annual dive training
Members of the Paris Fire Department and Horizon Health search and rescue dive teams took a dip in Paris’ East Lake on Wednesday, Aug. 21 as part of an annual training exercise. According to Paris Fire Chief Chad Crampton, the purpose of the exercise is to test equipment, review procedure for divers and their ground team, as well as to promote safety. “(The importance of this) is the safety of my divers. This is dangerous, and it’s even more dangerous when you’re diving under ice, or in moving water or under debris,” he explained. Divers use radio systems and signals sent via the tug of a rope to communicate with personnel on the shore.
